Description:
Science Projects is based on a contracted study arrangement between the student and an approved supervisor. Students improve their skills to choose and define problems, obtain information from libraries or experiments, organize facts and ideas, and report ideas and conclusions in written form.

Students may do one three-credit project (SCIE 495) or two
three-credit projects (SCIE 495 and 496).

These courses are for students who wish to carry out science-related projects (biology, chemistry, computer science, geology, mathematics, or physics) or to obtain formal recognition of science-related skills and training they have received on the job (agriculture, business, forestry, or industry).


Assessment may include:
Assessment methods include written reports and other prepared materials based on guidelines derived from the learning contract.

Entry requirements:
At least 12 credits in the topic area (at least 3 at senior level) and permission of the course professor.

Students with credit for SCIE 324 and SCIE 315 cannot take this course for further credit.

Media and methods employed: Printed text, tutorial support.
The course may involve library, field, or lab work as agreed by the student and the supervisor.

Administrative information:
26 weeks (6 months) are allowed for completion of each of these 3 credit courses.

Registration may take place any time during the year. Before registering, students must submit an acceptable project proposal.
